Chas Spradbery, Peritus International,

UK, details the plan to develop the

Middle East to India Deepwater Pipeline

to deliver gas from Oman to India.

S

outh Asia Gas Enterprise Pvt Ltd (SAGE) has been

developing the Middle East to India Deepwater

Pipeline (MEIDP) as a transnational gas infrastructure

project to deliver 1.1 billion ft

3

/d from Oman to the

Gujurat coast of India via a deepwater route across the Arabian

Sea.

SAGE is an Indian company which has been working on the

project with a global consortium for the last nine years, with a

view to developing an energy corridor for transportation of gas

from the Middle East to India by the safest, most economic and

reliable means. It is considered that the route is too short for

LNG to be an economic transportation option; SAGE internal

studies have concluded that the cost of delivered gas to India’s

West Coast is approximately US$1/million Btu lower than LNG.

Recent gas discoveries in Oman, UAE and Saudi Arabia have

further increased the attractiveness of this project.
