Better
together
Alasdair Cowie, Cortez Subsea Limited,
Scotland, discusses the importance of
collaboration in driving the development
of new technologies.
T
he subsea industry continues to adjust to its new norms
or a ‘lower for longer’ reality. Production is at its highest
level since 2011, and momentum is building around
exploration. However, these wins have been achieved
with squeezed budgets and a target on increasing efficiencies.
This battle will continue with a relentless focus but, as well as
keeping costs down, it is agreed that new technology and ways
of working are essential to unlock resources to meet the world’s
demands for energy.
According to the Oil & Gas UK Business Outlook Report 2019,
challenges remain across parts of the supply chain; pressure on
revenues and margins continue, and cash flow is stretched. It cites
innovative business models and co-operation across the entire
industry and supply chain as the key to unlocking new projects
and generating sustainable returns.
The importance of partnership
Collaborative partnerships are vital to the development of
technology, which is moving forward at a phenomenal rate. Being
partnered with organisations within and outside of the sector
that support, drive or lead the development of a product or
service can aid the success of businesses considerably.
Cortez Subsea forms part of a group of highly technical
entities in the subsea energy sector. The group delivers the design
and development of state-of-the-art technology and equipment,
taking this from an idea through planning to application and
