SUXXESION,

THE NETHERLANDS

S

uxxesion B.V. is specialised in the design and production

of end-of-the-line attachments. Its first device, built

for Max Bertrand in France, was a diesel-driven 40 DS

vacuum power unit installed on a truck crane to load

and offload pipes from a stock yard to the construction site

on a trailer. Looking at the design of that equipment and

construction today, a lot has changed over the past 20 years. In

January 2020, the company has noted serial number 1738, again

for pipe handling equipment.

Project decision makers are far away, especially when

pipelines go through different countries with various political

tensions and priorities. When orders for equipment come in,

Suxxesion has to respond promptly; the company is proud

that it manages to anticipate this, and that it plays a major role

in the supply chain. The custom-made tools are designed to

handle, hydraulically or by means of vacuum, loads such as steel

or concrete pipes, steel sheets and billets, concrete elements,

wing skins, paper reels, or any other object which can be lifted

by means of vacuum.

Suxxesion has also designed a tool for easy conversion

of a container terminal into a break bulk terminal. The multi-

tool can be suspended,

with minor changes to the

container spreaders suspended

from container bridge cranes,

reach stackers, mobile harbour

cranes, or any other loading means

equipped with a container spreader.

This is convenient for when pipeline

projects need temporary pipe storage,

or when construction takes place close to

the container terminal and material such as

steel sheets or concrete elements arrive from

overseas. In these cases it will not be necessary

to arrange for a temporary brake bulk terminal,

but the local container terminal can be converted

quickly and the investment will be limited to

equipment only.

The advantage also is that infrastructure behind the

container terminal, such as roads and railways, will be

available. When the construction or pipeline project has

been completed, the container terminal can be operated as a

container terminal after the Suxxesion attachments have been

removed, which will take only a limited time.

Since the beginning, Suxxesion’s main business has been pipe

handling, and its equipment is designed to meet the present

requirements for handling speed and safety. Over the past years

the company has built a range of devices to handle pipes at the

pipe manufacturers, pipe coating companies, in harbour areas,

storage yards and at the pipe stretch.

The logistic situation is different at each site depending

on location and specific requirements. An example is the

multi-tool 320 DVHKI. This device is fully integrated in

the reach stacker. Up front, only hydraulic oil feed

is required from the carrying machine and 24 V,

controlling by means of bluetooth data exchange.

An additional feature is the hydraulic adjustment

of the c-c between the suction pads. Both

applications are typical indications that the

handling material is dedicated to handle pipes

only.

The recently developed 320 DVHKI is a

multi-tool which can be equipped with

pipe spreaders or with a beam with

flat pads to handle steel sheets or

concrete. Knuckle boom suspended

lifting equipment is used on every

operation to handle pipes. As

far as harbour applications

are concerned, Suxxesion is

accustomed to handling pipes

in combination with HMC’s

reach stackers and knuckle

boom cranes.
