Heavy equipment review

P

ort Industries is

a family-owned

business that

provides Hydramaxx

rubber-tyred wheel trenchers,

chain trenchers, tracked wheel,

and self-contained plows. The

company focuses on engineering,

design, manufacturing, sales, distribution,

and service. In addition, Port Industries

provides used machines, rent-to-

purchase options, GPS/laser equipment,

and parts. Located in Palmyra, Missouri

(US), Port Industries manufactures equipment

that is used for pipelaying, agricultural/sports-turf

drainage, wind farm collection systems, and solar

cable installation.

Port Industries manufactures Hydramaxx chain,

wheel and plow machines as well as specialised

equipment requested by customers for specific jobs. One

of the many specialised industries that the company works

with is the pipeline industry. Each job varies depending

on the digging depth, digging width, and soil type that is

being trenched through. Pipeline jobs can be rough and

unpredictable, therefore making sure the right equipment

is on the job is a key factor in the overall success of the

project. Port Industries has worked with many pipeline

companies to ensure they have the right equipment for the

job.

Port Industries is able to offer customers a

specialised machine, designed with customer input

to ensure that the specific needs and requirements

of each job are met. One of the machine options

offered by the company is a 2720 or 2620 wheel

machine that comes standard with 7 ft 3 in.

digging depth and 16 in. - 40 in. digging

width. In order to save time and money, the

company builds the same machines with a

detachable digging unit. This allows the

digging wheels to be interchanged in a

matter of minutes, to easily adjust for

different pipe sizes.

The Hydramaxx 2520 chain

machine comes standard with 7 ft

digging depth and 11.5 in. wide

cut, but can be personalised

to dig as deep as 11 ft

and 28 in. wide. Like most of

Port Industries’ machines,

the cab has been

redesigned to allow

for more space, with

operator entrances

from both the left and right sides, as well as mirrors and

multiple camera options to provide improved visibility

around the machine.

Port Industries has also built wheel attachments to

fit other trenchers. Most recently, the company designed

and manufactured a wheel capable of digging 10 ft deep

and 6 ft wide. This wheel was built specifically to mount

on a separate tractor unit. Port Industries also provides

special style teeth, rooter bands, cutters, and buckets to

accommodate most digging conditions.

For over 50 years, Port Industries has and will continue

to focus on design, manufacturing, distributing, and the

needs and expectations of its customers. The company is

always looking for ways to improve, whether it be through

technology, jobsite feedback, equipment, or other methods.
