Heavy equipment review

JARRAFF INDUSTRIES,

USA

T

he Jarraff All-Terrain

Tree Trimmer, the

LineBacker Brush

Cutter and the Mini-

Jarraff Urban Tree Trimmer are

designed to provide right-of-way

(ROW) maintenance contractors value

in the form of efficiency, safety, and

profitability. With features designed to

maximise production and enhance operator

safety, each unit has its place in the ROW.

The Jarraff All-Terrain Tree Trimmer was

developed for the clearing and trimming

of trees and encroaching limbs. According to

Kenny Jones, National Accounts Manager at Jarraff

Industries, the demands of the pipeline ROW require

equipment that can operate effectively in wide-

ranging conditions.

“With the All-Terrain Tree Trimmer, you do not have

to deal with outriggers, and you are in a ROPS and FOPS

certified cab. You just keep trimming. The difference in

the speed of operations and the level of safety compared

to more traditional methods of clearing encroaching limbs

and branches is night and day. The Jarraff operator is not

exposed to the elements; [they are] not 70 ft in the air. From

a production standpoint on a pipeline ROW, the Jarraff is

going to average two miles of clearing per day, while more

traditional methods are probably going to average closer

to one-quarter [of a] mile per day,” said Jones.

The unit provides a dynamic field of operation for

tree trimming applications. A rotary manifold offers

a 360˚ range of motion as a standard feature. The

unit also provides lateral tilt and 75 ft cutting

height. Two four-way joysticks and fingertip

controls are designed to provide optimal

precision.

After introducing a quad track version of

its LineBacker Brush Cutter, another staple

of the pipeline ROW, Jarraff Industries

recently introduced the new Quad Track

Jarraff model.

“The quad track design provides

low ground pressure and excellent

traction, as well as road-ability and

manoeuvrability. The stability,

traction, and lower ground

pressure of the quad track

configuration make it well-

suited to the conditions

of typical pipeline ROW.

Pipelines are often in

those low-lying areas,

[in] wet, difficult

conditions. The new quad track is ideal for that environment,”

Jones said.

In addition to the extreme mobility, the new Jarraff

machine features all of the latest upgrades that existing

Jarraff models offer, including a patent pending rotating saw

head design that allows the operator to rotate the blade

assembly 180˚. According to Jones, Jarraff Industries’ Mini-

Jarraff Urban Tree Trimmer is designed to provide significant

manoeuvrability and precision limb cutting capability.

“The Mini-Jarraff really comes in handy in the urban areas

where pipelines cut through cities and more populous regions.

A small footprint and compact profile allow the Mini-Jarraff

to operate in those areas, and a patent pending self-levelling

carrier allows it to travel on all types of terrain. Also, that

carrier eliminates the need for outriggers,” said Jones.

The remote controlled Mini-Jarraff offers a dynamic range

of operation including a 360˚ rotation. The unit also features

a rotating saw head for precision cutting, and a 54 ft vertical

reach.
