World Pipelines

MARCH 2020

WORLD NEWS

IN BRIEF

MALAYSIA

On 10 February, the team at

Cortez Subsea mobilised the

Grand Canyon II

offshore vessel

for its project to lay the first ever

subsea pipeline using mechanical

connectors offshore Malaysia. The

Global 1201

vessel will also be

mobilised to install the pipeline

system for the Tembikai Non-

Associated Gas Development by

Vestigo Petroleum.

UAE

ADNOC has announced the award

of two contracts worth a

combined US$1.65 billion for the

construction of offshore facilities,

including pipelines and umbilicals,

for the Dalma Gas Development

Project, located approximately

190 km northwest of Abu Dhabi.

The contracts were awarded to

Petrofac Emirates LLC and a joint

venture between Petrofac and

Sapura Energy Berhad.

POLAND

The West Pomeranian Voivode has

issued a decision approving the

extension of the gas compressor

station in Goleniów. It is the first

of three decisions to be obtained

by GAZ-SYSTEM for the expansion

and construction of these

infrastructure elements as a part

of the Baltic Pipe project, which is

aimed at creating a new gas

supply corridor in the European

market.

CANADA

The Canada Energy Regulator has

issued Safety Advisory SA 2020-01

to all its regulated companies

regarding high strength steel pipes

and the connecting welds.

Companies that are currently

constructing projects will need to

demonstrate that all potential

hazards have been considered in

the design, construction, and

operation of pipelines where

strain could potentially

accumulate in undermatched girth

weld areas.

TC Energy announces two expansion projects

TC Energy Corporation (TC Energy) has

announced that it has approved two new

expansion projects totalling CAN$1.3 billion on

its wholly-owned natural gas pipeline systems.

The CAN$0.9 billion 2023 NGTL Intra-Basin

System Expansion will deliver natural gas from

the Western Canadian Sedimentary Basin

(WCSB) to markets within Alberta, Canada, on

the NOVA Gas Transmission Ltd (NGTL)

system, while the US$0.3 billion Alberta XPress

project will see the expansion of the ANR

Pipeline to provide a seamless path for

Canadian production to access growing LNG

export and other markets along the US Gulf

Coast.

“Our natural gas pipeline systems require

expansion as customers continue to contract

for incremental pipeline capacity to meet

growing demand,” said Russ Girling, TC Energy’s

President and Chief Executive Officer. “These

new investments within our existing system

footprints supplement our ongoing

CAN$30 billion secured capital programme

and demonstrate the long-term need across

North America and in global energy markets

for clean-burning natural gas, as well as the

value of our existing infrastructure as a

platform for organic growth.”

The 2023 NGTL Intra-Basin System

Expansion is underpinned by approximately

309 million ft

3

/d of new firm service delivery

contracts. Customers have executed

agreements with 15-year terms, with service

commencing in 2023, that will connect WCSB

supply to growing Alberta market demand in

the power generation, oilsands, petrochemical,

and utility sectors. The 2023 NGTL Intra-Basin

System Expansion will include approximately

119 km (74 miles) of new pipeline in existing

rights-of-way and 90 MW of additional

compression. Applications for approvals to

construct and operate the facilities are

expected to be filed with the Canada Energy

Regulator in 2020 and, pending receipt of

regulatory approvals, construction will

commence as early as 4Q21.

The Alberta XPress project on the ANR

Pipeline is underpinned by approximately

160 million ft

3

/d of new firm service contracts

and will include compressor station

modifications and additions within the existing

ANR Pipeline footprint, as well as utilise

existing capacity on the Great Lakes Gas

Transmission and Canadian Mainline systems.

Customers have negotiated agreements, which

include customary conditions precedent, with

weighted average terms of 19 years and service

commencing in 2022.

Applications for approvals to construct

and operate the ANR Pipeline facilities will be

filed with the Federal Energy Regulatory

Commission (FERC) in 2020. Pending receipt of

FERC approvals, construction will commence

as early as 3Q21.

NDT Global acquired by Eddyfi/NDT

NDT Global, a supplier of ultrasonic inline

inspection (ILI) and integrity services has

announced that on 4 February 2020, NDT

Global was acquired by Eddyfi/NDT.

Eddyfi/NDT, the combination of Eddyfi

Technologies and NDT Global, is a private test

and measurement technology group focused

on non-destructive testing (NDT).

Richard Matthews, President and CEO of

NDT Global, comments, “Joining with Eddyfi

Technologies offers tremendous opportunity

to leverage our respective knowledge to

develop even better solutions. At NDT Global

we want to continue our trend of being a

technology disruptor whilst delivering new

and never seen before solutions to our

customers through out of the box thinking,

creativity and collaboration – we believe

Eddyfi Technologies will help us materialise

this vision.”

Martin Theriault, CEO of Eddyfi/NDT, says:

“We have spent the past 10 years developing,

acquiring and perfecting the most advanced

NDT modalities in the world. At every level of

technology, pushing the limits of NDT to new

heights has allowed us to solve critical

problems and deliver superior, information-

rich data for the benefits of our clients. But

selling inspection instrumentation and

technology alone in certain very niche and

specialised sub-verticals, such as ILI, simply

doesn’t suffice. We are therefore excited to

join forces with NDT Global and work with

them and their clients to take ILI NDT to the

next level.”

Moelis & Company acted as exclusive

financial advisor to NDT Global in the

transaction.

Hogan Lovells acted as lead legal advisor

to NDT Global.
